Carl L. Liederman is a leading strategist, international corporate lawyer, entrepreneur, non-executive director, and the Founder and CEO of LIEDERSHIP, a strategic advisory that operates globally on a trusted-advisor model.  

During his +30-year career, Carl spent his formative years at Cleary Gottlieb and has led deals in over 90 countries across a wide variety of activities, including cross-border M&A, joint ventures, strategic alliances, capital markets, private equity, venture capital, and board governance.  He has focused on all key sectors from finance, manufacturing, FMCG, TMT, and health care (pharma, biotech, and medtech).

Carl has worked and lived in New York, Washington, D.C., California, Paris, London, and Switzerland. Having worked and built smaller offices of global firms, Carl has developed a business-focused approach that combines strategic problem solving with fit-for-purpose execution and implementation.   

Carl also is a recognised expert in the area of impact and sustainability, including impact investing, venture philanthropy, and civil society.  He has co-founded charities, led charities, chaired charitable boards, and advised leading charities, and foundations. He has extensive experience in impact measurement, business development, project management, fundraising, consensus building, and stakeholder engagement.  Carl is a frequent speaker, panelist, and moderator.  He has served in many leadership and advisory positions throughout his career, including:

  • Chair of the Board, ShareAction

  • Head of European Corporate, Arnold & Porter

  • Head of European Mergers & Acquisitions and Head of Integration, Orrick

  • Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, Right To Play UK

  • Chairman of the Governance and Nominations Committee and Trustee, Right To Play International

  • Co-Founder and Trustee, ABT (American Ballet Theatre) International Exchange

 

Carl is a member of the bars of New York and Washington, DC.  He received his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Journal of International Law, and his B.A. from Pomona College, summa cum laude, valedictorian.  He is fluent in French and conversant in Italian, Spanish and Greek.
